Going Live and Buzzer Management

Going Live and Buzzer Management

This blog post has a few thoughts on how and why this website is being built.  In a nutshell, this website is an exercise in "Buzzer Management," which is a term I recently learned from Seth Godin while watching a video interview by Marie Forleo, (the video is included below.)

Essentially, the idea for this website has been rolling around in my head for about two years.  So, instead of thinking or planning the whole thing out in advance, I decided to "Hit the Buzzer" before the details were finalized.

Let me explain.

Over my career as a technical and creative online marketer, there has been a long line of websites, blogs, wikis, and custom applications that I have been involved with producing and launching over many years.  For example, the first professional website went live in 1999 and had a few of the following features:

  • Public presentation pages (Home, About, Products, Services, etc.)
  • A customer login area
  • Integrated mapping technologies
  • An ecommerce checkout process
  • A document management area
  • Much more...

The point is, the first website was a team collaboration of a couple different people.  It took us a few months to get all the pieces designed, developed, and tested before going live.  There was a lot of planning and preparation that took place before the final first version was launched.

This website is very different.

ProMediaPublishing.com is live right from the beginning.  Quoting Seth Godin... the buzzer has been hit before I have the answers!  What will this site ultimately become? There is a vague idea, but simply moving into action and documenting the process from the very beginning is part of the creation process. Exposing the design and development pieces that usually are not shared is an asset I have embraced and will continue to use during the progression of this website.

It is my hope that people find value and engage in this process by asking questions, making suggestions, or just providing general feedback.

If you are interested in learning more about "Buzzer Management," Mr. Godin explains it in the following video, around the 18:30 mark.

Thanks for visiting and see you next time!
